Can you believe that this is my first blog of 2007?!?
I feel like such a slacker!
Well, if your January was anything like mine, you know that I was not a slacker but more busy than I could anticipate. I never thought that the slowest month for a hairstylist would turn out to be one of my busiest.

Along with teaching tons of haircolor classes, it seemed that many people were in some need of my services in January. I was definitely glad to be needed! Plus, it was great for everyone to experience the salon’s new location while it’s brand-spankin’ new. If you haven’t been in yet, I can’t wait for you to come see me.

Things have obviously been busy at work and I can’t say they’ve slowed down in any other aspect of life. I found another little part-time acting job. (That’s right. Like my husband says, I can’t just have ONE job.) Right now, I’m doubling as a spokes model for marketing and distributing firm that manufactures decorative solid surfaces (countertops). I know it sounds confusing…Bottom line is I am doing informational videos for the company. It’s fun being a spokes model. So far I’ve only done a few recordings. Hopefully they will use me for more!

On the stressful side of things, so far this year my identity has been stolen and used to spend over $10,000 with department store credit cards, a tree fell down in front of our house because of the ice storm, our dog may have to have hip replacement surgery (poor little guy!) and I *still* haven’t made it through my client list to call and update everyone with news of the location change!

However, things are looking up! I am so excited for Valentine’s Day! I have no desire to go to an overcrowded restaurant and eat an overly expensive dinner just because tradition dictates. Instead, I plan on taking in a double-feature at the movie theater. My two desired movie choices are “Because I Said So” starring Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore and Lauren Graham and “Music and Lyrics” with Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant. My husband isn’t too excited to see two back-to-back chick flicks but it’s not too much to ask of a Valentine’s Day gift, right?

I hope you have a wonderful February (don’t forget to check out this month’s special offer) and I won’t let it go too long before my next update.

Thanks for reading….If you can, leave me a comment. I thrive off of the interaction. 🙂

Hey Donna! I hope your february isn't as busy as january because that sounded pretty nuts. I don't plan on getting my hair cut any time soon but I want to come in and see the new salon!

    Hey Donna,

Your starting to act like an over achiever! LOL

I am really happy for you and all your successes.

Other than the tree the hip & your loss of identity. Sounds like things are going very well!

I will be making an appt. soon. Ohh all the colors…Which one should I pick? Joe likes the auburn, whereas, I like the blonde.

    Take Care,

Donna, Great, fun website. I knew if it was yours, it would be great. Aren;t you supposed to be taking it a little slower? All is well at SSG… but i would like my new position better if I had you back in our house (ha-ha). Best of luck in all you do, and I plan to try to stop and see you,on one of my St Louis trips.

""Am I reading into Eddie Davis's comment about "taking it a little slower" the wrong way?""

In response to your comment, I am not sure what way you are taking Eddie's comment. So I am unsure that you are taking it the wrong way.

Hello there!
I can’t believe that we are almost finished with the year 2006! Time has really flown by this year. I’ve got so much going on (as I’m sure we all do) with Christmas traditions and Christmas parties and, of course, the shopping! The hot item this year seems to be the new video game systems out there. Especially the new Nintendo Wii. If you aren’t familiar with this new way to play video games, well, then come on over to our house! We’ve had so many friends and family members over to play our new Wii. I’ve got to say Wii just love it! hee hee!!!

If you aren’t familiar with how the video game works, I’ll give you a brief lesson. Basically, you move your controller to mimic the actions that you want your video game character to create. For example, when you are playing baseball, you’ll hold your remote (or Wiimote) like a bat and swing as the ball approaches. When you are bowling you will hold your remote like the ball and swing forward hoping for a strike (or if you are me, a spare). The games are so much fun and you’d never believe that you would get so ‘into’ it. Watch videos of other’s playing their Wii.

In other news, our salon is moving… four doors down. So alot of things will stay the same; like parking, our phone number and the route you take to come see me! What will change is the size of our space, meaning the salon is going to have a lot more room (thank goodness!) and we are offering additional services starting with laser hair removal. I look forward to seeing you in our new space January 2007…. that’s only a couple of weeks away! Eek!

Well, I’d better get back to Christmas shopping online…only a few more days to order my items to guarantee shipment by the 25th!

Have a very Merry Christmas and and Wonderful New Year.

SSG Nashville Hairshow – Featuring Goldwell and KMS

So I got a chance to work as an assistant at the Nashville Hairshow (aka Groupie Gathering). As you can see, I had a blast! This is my 4th time working the hairshow and my 2nd time in Nashville. Like I mentioned in my last post, I usually help with Goldwell‘s (the haircolor company that I am an educator for) presentation. This time I thought that I was going to be working with Pureology but instead I was assigned to work with Brad Ngata from KMS.

Brad was very nice. He put me in charge of most everything. From coloring the models hair with my own formulations to pre-setting all of the models hair for his presentation. I worked with him for 2 days before the actual show. We didn’t have much time to talk but I did learn that he was a hairstylist from Austraila. Well, apparently that’s not ALL he is!

On the day of the show, the atmosphere is hectic backstage. You have to make sure all the models are prepped, dressed and in line. I am backstage but we can see everything on these huge monitors, including the introductions of the Guest Artists. When it was time to introduce Brad they played a 10 minute video about him. I was amazed to find out that I had been working with Austraila’s two time winner of the “Hairdresser of the Year” award! What an honor!

ooohhh hs of the yr did you get his autograph? No, I'm serious, did you? Did you at least get to touch him. Man, what would even be better is if he let you do his hair. Or, better yet even, if he did your hair. That woulda been tight. I think i would've made him. Um, your slide show is too fast for me! Is there any way I can slow it down? I really want to LOOK at the pictures!ReplyCancel

My first blog! How exciting! What should I write about? Hmmmmm.

Well, things are going wonderfully at the salon. I feel like I am busier than ever. That’s a good thing! I can always take new clients. I love the challenge of a new cut and color and I love meeting new people.

I am also staying busy with teaching. In a couple of weeks I head off to Nashville for the Salon Service Group Hair Show. It’s going to be fun. This year my role is very different. In years past, I have been assistant to the main Goldwell Artist. This year I am responsible for coloring and designing the color choices for a shampoo and styling line called Pureology. You see, the show consists of artists from many different product lines. At the Nashville show we have Pureology, MOP, KMS and Goldwell. Out of all these lines, Goldwell is the only line that does color. The rest are styling lines. So when the other lines give a presentation on a new cut, style or updo they have to make sure the model they are using has beautiful haircolor. That’s where I come in!
So it’s a new position for me. I am nervous and excited. In the past I just did what the artist told me to do. NOW I get to make the decisions!

Things at home are going well. Always a project around the house. Currently we are redoing our office. It used to be our bedroom. So where is our bedroom? It’s in our old ‘animal room’ (which used to be called a library before we got all of our pets!). And now where is the ‘animal room’? Well, they no longer have a room. The only reason we bestowed a room to our animals is because the dogs kennels were SO big that there was no good place to put them in the house…. except in that room!

So we (and that really means I) had an excellent idea for our new office. We (this time that means Christopher) took down the sliding doors to the closet, put up shelves and left space at the bottom for the dogs to hang. That’s right, they have a bed right under our shelves. Now the kennels are folded up and in the garage and we have so much more room in the house! The dogs are so cute under there and they really like their new beds!

So the room is still ‘under construction’. I still have to put my finishing touches on it. It sure is hard to decorate when your working with the paint color we chose. BRIGHT GREEN.
I’m trying not to make it look like a little kids room. It will take some time!

So that’s it for me! Thanks for reading. Have a wonderful day!
